Maxine Prater, 100, of Carnesville, Georgia, passed August 3, 2025, at her home in Carnesville.

Maxine was born June 20, 1925, in Pavo, Georgia, to William and Winnie Ryalls Beaty. She married William Prater of Carnesville. Together, they owned and operated Prater Food Services and ran two full-service cafeteria restaurants in the Atlanta area. Maxine cherished her family and was known for her love of cooking and sewing, often creating dresses, gowns, and garments for family and friends. She was a member of Glen Haven Presbyterian church in Decatur,Ga.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Prater of West Minister, SC; her parents, William and Winnie Beaty of Pavo; her daughter, Winnette Payne; her son‑in‑law, Vick Payne; and her grandson, Justin Payne-all of Carnesville; and her siblings Kathryn Doane of Clarkston, Georgia; Jean Doll of Cleveland, Georgia; Dot Culp of Thomasville, Georgia; William Frank Beaty Jr., Beverly "Bud" Beaty, and Jack Beaty, all of Pavo. Her step‑siblings Murrell Beaty of West Palm Beach, FL and Clement Alderman of Flagstaff, AZ.

Maxine is survived by her son, Marion Prater of Carnesville; grandchildren Cameron Payne (Carnesville), Jennifer Prater (Macon), Timothy Jacob (Nicholson), Samantha Prater (Carnesville), and Casey Prater (Savannah); and her brother‑in‑law Kenneth Doll of Cleveland, Georgia.

Private cremation and graveside services will be held at a later date.
