Mary Lula Dilworth, age 91, passed away peacefully at her home in Hartwell, Georgia, on October 4, 2025.
Born and raised in the Red Hill community, she was the daughter of the late Charlie and Lila Yeargin Dilworth. Mary dedicated her life to creativity, learning, and family. She attended several North Georgia colleges after earning her degree from Georgia Teachers College. A gifted artist and educator, she spent her career teaching art in the DeKalb County Public School System, where she inspired generations of students with her passion for artistic expression.
Beyond the classroom, Mary's extraordinary talent earned her numerous awards and recognition throughout her life. She was also a registered art therapist, using the healing power of art to touch the lives of others in meaningful ways.
After retiring, she made her home on Lake Hartwell, where she continued creating, painting, and contributing to the local arts community. Fiercely independent yet deeply devoted to her loved ones, Mary cherished her family above all.
She is survived by her two sons, three grandsons, and two great-grandchildren, who will forever carry her creative spirit and love in their hearts.
Mary will be laid to rest at Allen's Methodist Cemetery. A celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, October 19, 2025, at The Arts Center of Hartwell, 338 East Howell Street, Hartwell, Georgia 30643.
With open hearts, we invite all who knew and loved her to gather in gratitude and remembrance of a life that touched so many.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Arts Center of Hartwell in her honor.
