Mrs. Johnnie Jurrell Bell Powers, age 84, of the Hunters Creek Road Community, was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at her home surrounded by her loved ones after a short but powerful strong health fight.
Born on September 17th, 1941, in Toccoa Georgia, to the late Nannie Mae Bell and Randolf Canady, Johnnie spent her entire life in the community she loved and called home. She was affectionately known as “NeNe” to her grandchildren and many of their friends, a name that was synonymous with warmth, comfort and unconditional love.
She was of the Baptist faith that loved Jesus, and lived her life with kindness, devotion and quiet strength. She gave so much love freely to her family and everyone around her.
She found joy in life’s simple moments; she loved southern gospel music, enjoyed classic country songs, cooking the best home cooked meals that brought her family together and never missing an episode of her favorite soap opera ‘Days of our Lives”. Her home was a place of comfort, conversation and love and many cherished memories were made.
Above all, NeNe loved her family, and her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, laughter, traditions and countless memories.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 54 years, Mr. Wallace Thomas Powers, an honorable Veteran who served in the Korean War, her son, Douglas Powers, her brother, Ronnie Bell, and son-in-law, David Russell.
She is survived by her children, Donna Powers Russell of Toccoa; son, Randall Jack Powers of Toccoa; grandson, John Matthew DeWitt of the home; granddaughter, Autumn Russell Cox (Kevin) of Toccoa; great-grandchildren, Warner and Quincy Cox; sister, Debbie Hornick of Toccoa; cousin and best friend, Jackie Fuller of Snellville, Georgia; a number of many other loving cousins, nieces and nephews who loved her dearly. Her family takes comfort in knowing that she is reunited with those who have gone on before to the gates of Heaven.
“Well done, good and faithful servant” – Matthew 25:23
