Mr. Joseph “Joe” Walter Whitlock, age 80 of Carnesville, Georgia passed away Friday, September 11, 2026, at Piedmont Athens Regional Hospital.

A son of the late Jeff Virgil Whitlock, Sr. and Mary Lou Wehunt Whitlock, he was born November 7, 1945, in Stephens County, Georgia having lived most of his life in the Red Hill Community. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Vietnam. He along with his brothers owned and operated Whitlock Scrap Metal for a number of years. He was a member of Allen’s Methodist Church and attended Toccoa Creek Baptist Church. He was an avid golfer and a sports fan for all his grandkids. He was a loving husband of 59 years, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother. His faith was visible by his actions, a gentle humble man.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Anna Mackenzie Whitlock and brothers, J.V. Whitlock, Jr., Lamantine Whitlock, James Edward Whitlock, Sr., and Robert Whitlock.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jean Milford Whitlock; son and daughter-in-law, Rev. Joey and Leigh Whitlock of the Red Hill Community; daughter and son-in-law, Tracey and Mark Stowe of the Red Hill Community; grandchildren, Maley and Matt Hicks, Kristi and Scott Pearson, Chris and Lo Stowe, Abigail Whitlock, Drew Whitlock and Maggie Whitlock; great-grandchildren, Myles Hicks and Mattie Hicks; brothers, Winston Whitlock and Grady Whitlock both of Toccoa; sister, Lois Whitlock of Toccoa; a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Monday, September 14, 2026, 4 p.m. in the Hillcrest Chapel of the Acree-Davis Funeral Home with The Reverend Joey Whitlock and The Reverend Ralph Goss officiating. The following family members will serve as pallbearers, Chris Stowe, Drew Whitlock, Mark Stowe, Matt Hicks, Scott Pearson and Jeff Whitlock. Golfing friends from The Links will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family will receive friends at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home on Monday from 2 p.m. until the service time at 4 p.m. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.acree-davisfh.com.

Interment will follow in the Allen’s Methodist Cemetery with Military Honors by the U.S. Army Honor Guard.

Acree-Davis Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of the arrangements for Mr. Joseph “Joe” Whitlock.
