James Perry Vickery of Acworth, Georgia, passed away peacefully on August 16, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, service, and deep love for his family and community.
Born on February 14, 1954, in Anderson, South Carolina, James spent his life forging strong connections through dedication, generosity, and grit. He was a lifelong truck driver and the proud owner of J&J Trucking, based in Acworth. Trucking wasn’t just his profession it was his passion and he built a respected name for himself in the industry.
James previously served in law enforcement in Hart County and took great pride in his service. He was also a proud Boy Scout, reflecting his early commitment to duty, honor, and community.
While he made his home in Georgia, James held a special place in his heart for Canon and Franklin County, what he lovingly called “God’s Country.”
He is survived by his former wife, Teresa Royston of Ball Ground; his sons, Chad (Marsha) Vickery of Randleman, NC, and Jarid (Elizabeth) Vickery of Ball Ground, GA; and his stepson, Dustin (Kelly) Edwards of Ball Ground, GA. James was a beloved grandfather to five grandchildren and a great-grandfather to one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Vickery and Floura Moore Vickery of Canon, Georgia.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at Ginn Funeral Home in Carnesville, GA. Graveside services will follow at Canon Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Ginn Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in James’s memory to a charity supporting dementia and memory-loss research.
