Gordon “Bud” P. Tillirson, age 83, passed away peacefully at his home in Gainesville, Georgia, on May 7, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on October 17, 1942, in Atlanta, Georgia, he was the son of the late Gordon Tillirson Sr. and Sarah Gilstrap Tillirson. Bud retired from the Atlanta Post Office after many years of dedicated service. He was a loving husband, brother, uncle, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who cherished time spent with his family and friends. He was a fiercely independent man, a fighter who would tackle nearly any task by himself. He was a skilled and passionate chess player and played almost every day. Beneath his often tough exterior, he was a deeply compassionate and kind-hearted man.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Janet Varner Tillirson; his three children, Michelle Tillirson Rayner of Cumming, Melissa Tillirson King of Dawsonville, and Vincent (Wendy) Tillirson of Gainesville; and his siblings, Sandra Gaskins and Mike (Joy) Tillirson. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Laura (Kevin) Major, Christopher (Ashley) Rayner, Sarah (Tyler) Toms, Emma Tillirson, and Holly Tillirson; and his great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Harper, Bennett, Hudson, Hank, Hazel, Hadley, and Jackson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Hillary Shae King.
Visitation and memorial services will be held at Ginn Funeral Home in Carnesville, Georgia, on May 17, 2026. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM, with the memorial service to follow at 3:00 PM. Pastor Christopher Rayner will preside.
