Edward Thurmond

Edward "Ed" Thurmond, age 71, passed away on October 3, 2025, at Stephens County Hospital.

Ed was born in Toccoa, GA, to Silas and Selma Thurmond. He married Patricia "Patty" Thurmond, and together they raised four children, 17 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. Ed retired from GEM Industries in Toccoa, GA.He was preceded in death by his parents, Silas and Selma Thurmond. Siblings Roger Thurmond, Patsy Boulineau and Judy Thurmond.

He is survived by his wife, Patty Thurmond of Carnesville; and children, Joni (Joe) Maynard and Hope (Brian) Botts, both of Martin, Jay (April) Thurmond of Carnesville, and Cody Thurmond of Carnesville.Grandchildren include Shaia (Bash) Monnier of Alto; Sadie (Jaxson) Cleveland and Skylar (James) Holbrooks, both of Martin; Sierria (Sam) Parks of Jacksonville, NC; Mark (Taylor) Maynard of Chesapeake, VA; Kylee (Ethan) Beatenbough of Royston; Hunter (Ivey) Botts of Toccoa; John Botts of Martin; Cole (Jocelyn) Thurmond of Royston; Austin, Kassy, Mitch, and Annabelle Thurmond of Carnesville; Keri (Avery) Lumley of Canon; Destiny Thurmond of Carnesville; and Skarlet Thurmond of Warner Robins. He was the proud great-grandfather of twelve.He is also survived by siblings, Joe Dan Thurmond of Carnesville, Geneva Savage of Toccoa, Jimmy (Darlene) Thurmond of Carnesville, Cathy Thackston of South Carolina, and David (Elizabeth) Thurmond of Homer; along with many nieces and nephews.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
