Clyde Dowell

Clyde Howard Dowell, aged 76, passed away on August 28, 2025, at St. Mary’s Sacred Heart Hospital in Lavonia, Georgia.

Clyde was born on January 10, 1949, in Royston, Georgia, to Earnest and Adilee Patrick Dowell. He married Dinah Canady, of the Lavonia community, on August 22nd 2015 and although now retired, he had previously owned and operated a cross-country trucking company and worked as a driver for 53 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earnest and Adilee Dowell, and by his siblings Roy Dowell, Herman Dowell, Melvin Dowell, Gail Wooten, and Charles Dowell.

He leaves behind his wife, Dinah Dowell, of Lavonia; his children Stacie Grubbs of Anderson, SC ; Kim and Heather Dowell of Anderson, SC; Tim and Josh Dowell of Corteville, SC; and Leann and Chris Brown of Greenville, SC. Grandfather of Scott and Corie Grubbs, Brandon Grubbs, Brent and Brandy Grubbs, Hunter and Alex Dowell, Lillie and Chris Stead, and Emmalee and Coty Brown, as well as great-grandfather to three.

Surviving siblings and their spouses include Edward and Becky Dowell of Royston, Ga; MarySue and Jerry Hill of Canon, Ga; Mildred and Tony Stowe of Royston, GA; John “Junior” and Mary Jo Dowell of Royston, GA; Wanda and Cody Owen of Anderson, SC; Lucille Dowell of Royston, GA; Ruth Phillips of Graniteville, South Carolina; and Louise and Virgil Bennett of Canon, GA.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 31, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at Ginn Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 4:00 p.m. that same day, with Pastor Tommy Childress and Pastor Glynn Lyles officiating the services at Ginn Funeral Home.
